Richard Ashlin Obituary

Richard "Michael" Ashlin, 85, of Elkridge, Maryland, passed away peacefully on April 25, 2025.

Born on February 6, 1940, Mike came from a long family history rooted in the Washington, D.C. area. He spent much of his childhood in Miami and Fort Lauderdale, where he developed a lifelong love of baseball. After graduating from Fort Lauderdale High School, he attended the University of Florida before returning to the D.C. area to pursue a career in financial planning and life insurance.

Mike's love other than beautiful women was his passion for aviation. Mike often flew his beloved Mooney aircraft from Freeway Airport across the Maryland skies. He especially cherished the joy of a "$100 hamburger"- a pilot's tradition of flying out for a meal, typically to the Chesapeake area and back.

A spirited and outspoken Republican, Mike relished good conversation and lively political debate. For years, he proudly called his private office "The Rush Room," in honor of his daily ritual of listening to Rush Limbaugh's radio show.

Mike was also a devoted tennis player, sharing a Monday match for over 30 years with his close friend Earl. He enjoyed attending Orioles games with his buddy Neil, and took great pride in his garden.

Above all, Mike loved his country and his family. He is survived by his daughter, Tina Ashlin; his sons, Todd and Scott Ashlin; and his beloved grandchildren, Haley and Chase Ashlin. He loved our Republic of USA and will be deeply missed.

As one of the original homeowners on this street, Mike made many helpful contributions to this community. He was a good neighbor, and we will miss him. Best wishes to his family.

So sorry for your loss. Mike was my neighbor for 12 years, and always friendly. He did many great things for his community while acting as president of the HOA. Much of what he did will live on for many years.
