Richard Murphy Obituary

On Monday, July 2, 2001, RICHARD F. MURPHY, JR., 61, of Simsbury, CT, formerly of Baltimore; husband of Charlotte (Herr) Murphy; father of Laura Murphy, of Simsbury, CT; son of the late Margaret (Raley) Murphy and Richard F. Murphy, Sr.; brother of Margaret Miller and Joyce Klages, and her husband Roland, both of Maryland. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives. Richard F. Murphy, Jr. was selected 1958 Catholic Athlete of the Year, the first time an athlete from Mt. St. Joseph High School had received this honor. He was also selected as one of the first five athletes inducted into St. Joes Hall of Fame. A Memorial Mass will be held at Stella Maris Chapel, off Dulaney Valley Road, Timonium, on Friday, July 13, 2001, at 1 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the Richard F. Murphy, Jr. Scholarship Fund, c/o Simsbury High School, 34 Farms Village Road, Simsbury, CT 06070. Please make checks payable to Simsbury High School.
