Shawn Lynn Simmons

1961 - 2022

Shawn Simmons, age 60, passed away on Friday, November 11, 2022, at Stella Maris Hospice after a valiant 4 year fight with cancer. She was born December 2,1961 in Norfolk, Va. She was the daughter of Thomas and Estelle Powell. She grew up in VA. Beach and was a 1983 graduate of Virginia Tech where she earned her degree in Fashion Merchandising and Design. It is at university that she met her future husband, Neal, whom she married in 1986.

Shawn moved back to Maryland with him where they enjoyed 36 years of marriage together. Together, they spent years partaking in historical re-enactments, through which they made many life- long friendships. She and her husband also loved nothing more than gathering with friends, even on an impromptu basis, at their home and sharing meals together. Though Shawn started working retail work she ultimately went on to work for Baltimore County as a management analyst for the Department of Environmental Protection and Resource Management after her child was born so that she could be home more regularly.

Shawn is survived by her husband Neal, daughter Katie, of whom she was extremely proud. She is also survived by her two adoring nephews, Tyler and Toby, and her sister-in-law (Nancy)and brother-in-law (Charlie). She is preceded in death by her sister Sheila Powell.

A Memorial Service will be held at the Emory Methodist Church at 911 Cherry Hill Rd, Street, MD at 12 Noon on Saturday, November 26.
