Wow, I was shocked to hear the news about Steve's passing.

I remember talking with him not too long ago. He touched so many lives, and he always praised me for my work with the accessible sailing program at the DSC. I recall a few times when we would rush to direct boats in and do some quick transports before the storms hit. We used to sit on the dock and talk about how much of a blessing sailing was for people of all walks of life. I feel bad for just now catching wind of the news, but I'm glad to have known him. Steve will truly be missed and never forgotten.

Steve was the "everyman" I think

Steve was truly one of a kind, in the best possible way. As Marketing Director, President, and Board Member of Downtown Sailing Center, he helped grow DSC into a quality organization which was capable of making sailing available to everyone. He was the best man at my wedding, and is the best man I ever knew. He is too soon gone from the world and our lives.

Tentatively, the Downtown Sailing Center is holding an open memorial at the Museum of industry on Sunday, 11/13/11 from 4-6pm. Details to follow.

As Steve would say, "My man Potts and my man Mazer did a great job speaking at the funeral today. They really described the way I lived my life and what a true mensch I was. Other people I often spoke of was Baylin and the crew at the Downtown Sailing Center. I will really miss everyone. It was a great ride while it lasted.
... and that's the whole story!"

Steve, you will be missed more than you know.

What a wonderful man Steve was. He was a great example to us all. He was truly a selfless man volunteering much of his spare time at the sailing center helping other people less physically capable than him enjoy the gift of being on the water in a sail boat moving with the wind. We had many interesting talks together in the years I new Steve. He never called me by my name…he always called me Road Warrior because of how far I drove from York PA to come to the sailing center. I will miss hearing that and will miss him greatly. I offer my condolences to his family.

You wouldn't have guessed it when you first met him, but Steve had the ability to make people laugh like no one else I'd ever met. He was a great storyteller, and some of my favorite memories of him involve a room full of people laughing their heads off at one of Steve's tales. A one of a kind individual who will be sorely missed.

Steve had always a kind smile and a kind word to anyone new at the Downtown Sailing Center. He will be missed.
