Sue Foster Obituary

Sue Ann Deise Foster, a resident of Bel Air, Maryland and Vero Beach, FL, passed peacefully on October 15th after a three-year plus battle with Medullary Thyroid Cancer. She was surrounded by family.

Despite having been diagnosed as an Insulin Dependent, Type 1 Diabetic at 11 years old, Sue remained an active and vibrant Diabetic for over 64 years. She exceeded her original life expectancy by more than a quarter century by becoming an expert in diet, exercise, and insulin management. In a word, she beat Diabetes. For good measure, Sue also exceeded the most optimistic cancer prognostications by more than four months; but in the end, the cancer remained insurmountable.

Born in Baltimore, the family soon moved to Phoenix, AZ and later to Torrance, CA. Sue was a graduate of Torrance High School and completed the vast majority of her college education at the California State University, Long Beach before earning her B.S. Degree from Towson University. She spent several decades as a Paralegal in Baltimore-area law firms, notably Whiteford, Taylor, and Preston.

Sue was a Harford County Master Gardener whose Maryland home was often a site of charitable fundraising tours. Prior to moving to Florida, cold weather led her to a passion for Miniatures, where she became a published and accomplished Miniaturist. The result was a multitude of hand-crafted and remarkable museum-quality pieces, generally fashioned inside a distinctive and often antique apparatus.

Sue is survived by her husband of 39 years John of the home(s), daughter Jenna Bauer (Danny), and grandson Dallas, of Abingdon, Maryland, brother Scott Deise of Freeland, MD, and a multitude of beloved nieces and nephews in Phoenix, AZ, notably Karen Denning and Peter Deise. Her demise was preceded by those of her parents Charles and Shirley Deise and brothers Cary, Chuck, and Steve. Sue enjoyed a special relationship with her sister-in-law Deborah Lawson and Deborah's daughter Minka of Raleigh, NC.

A Celebration of Life will be held in the late spring of 2025 in Bel Air.
