Yesterday

His words, his delight at new insights, stay with me still, long after he introduced me to American literature at Franklin and Marshall.

As a gifted professor, he opened a world for me and at a time when I most needed encouragement. He had a way of bringing out the best in his students and I attribute my love of Emily Dickinson to his introduction. In the midst of the pettiness and unbridled ambition that often accompanies academia, he was a breath of fresh air.
