Theodore Potthast Obituary

On August 18, 2022, Theodore J. Potthast, Jr. passed away peacefully at his home. He was the beloved husband of Constance "Sugar" Fava Potthast; devoted father of Catherine "Cappy" A. Potthast and husband Philip Lohrey, Jr., John "Jack" A. Potthast and wife Ann Aronowitz; Mark I. Potthast, and Marialena "Mia" Walsh and husband Brian; loving grandfather of Andrew Potthast, Ben Potthast, Samantha Potthast, Katherine "Kate" Walsh, Emma Potthast, Sara Walsh and Viviana Potthast; loving brother in law of Frank "Cookie" Fava and Rose Perla Fava; son of the late Theodore J. Potthast, Sr. and Marie Burke Corcoran; brother of the late John Potthast.

His long career included teaching at Gonzaga College High School, working for the U.S. Department of Justice, and a long career as a lawyer in Baltimore City and Baltimore County and specialized in condemnation cases and estates and trusts. He served as the General Counsel for St. Joseph's Hospital in Towson, as well as the School Sisters of Notre Dame Mid-Atlantic Province.

His primary joy in life was keeping family from all over the world in touch and ensuring those ties to relatives in Germany, Ireland and Italy would continue for many generations after he passed.

He was a Lifetime Director of the German Society of Maryland, serving as their President for many years and a supporter of German culture in Maryland.

He enjoyed several poker groups, including the "Clerical Games of Chance" with many monsignors, bishops and archbishops in the Archdiocese of Baltimore. Another included an elite group of Baltimore's legal "who's who" with lawyers and judges.

Friends may call at the family-owned Ruck Towson Funeral Home, Inc. 1050 York Road (beltway exit 26) on Thursday, August 25 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM. Ted, you will be greatly missed. You were always helpful and knowledgeable. When ever I needed any legal advice you were willing to help. A loving and devoted husband and father. Our wives; Frances and Sugar were the best of friends. You were always solid as oak. Until we meet again my friend.

I extend my condolences to each one of the family, including Jack and Ann. My father was John J. Corcoran, formally of Chicago, Illinois.

My memories go back almost 90 years to when I was a child, and visited Baltimore, Md. with my parents to see Uncle Tom and Aunt Kate Corcoran. Uncle Tom was one of my Dad's brothers. Burke Corcoran and Elsa would also come to visit us in Chicago, when I was a young girl. So, my fond memories go back a long time. Ted and Connie came to Chicago one time, when Bill and I were visiting with our family from our home in Ct., and we had a grand time together. The years of war, and raising our families, took us away from seeing one another, and yet, it is with the most sincere sympathy that I express my sadness at the passing of Ted. Rest In Peace Ted, and thank you for your love. Therese (Terry) Corcoran Evans.
