Thomas Carter Obituary

Thomas John Carter, Sr., age 87, went to be with his darling wife in heaven on October 12, 2020. He was born on April 6, 1933 in Baltimore, MD. He served as a Staff Sergeant in the USAF during the Korean War. Tom was an active resident of Catonsville who was a retiree from Northrop Grumman after 30 plus years as an Electronic Technician. Serving as an Extraordinary Minister at St Marks Church as well as lector and being an avid volunteer for Our Daily Bread was what he was passionate about. Tom was not only a beloved husband, son, brother, father, grandfather, and soon to be great grandfather, he was a member of Catonsville Senior Center who loved to line dance, make new friends, and tell the best stories to be had.

Preceded in death by his sweetheart, Anna Carter; parents Herbert and Margaret Carter; and sister, Rosemary Sappington.

He is survived by his sister Margaret Schmitt; brother in law Joseph Lubbehusen; daughter, Tracy Weilert; son Thomas Carter, Jr. and wife Kathleen Carter; daughter, Valerie Smith and husband Wesley Smith; as well as grandchildren Joshua Weilert and wife Mackelyn Weilert, Katy Weilert, Brandon Smith, Amanda Smith, Jacob Carter, and soon to be born great grandson Judah Weilert.

A funeral service will be held for immediate family only due to the Covid-19 pandemic with the plan of a mass and a Celebration of Life in the future once deemed safe. If you would like to attend please send inquiries to: [email protected]. Future details will be sent out.

If desired, family and friends can make donations in lieu of flowers to www.curepsp.org.

I still miss him and often look when I am at St. Mark's for mass. We had some fun going to the doctors in Glen Burnie because afterward he would take me to lunch. He was such a generous man.

Tom is my Granddad, his impact in my life will not be forgotten. His love and service in his church and for his family inspires me daily to strive for the best and to never lose hope. I have the utmost faith that him, my Grandma Anna and Jesus are celebrating in heaven and I wouldn't be surprised if it included a big pile of crabs. I will miss him everyday and I know the holidays won't be the same. Macklyn and I love you, Granddad. We can't wait to share our memories of Granddad with our soon-to-be son, Judah Thomas, so that he knows the significance of his middle name.

I will surely miss him but am comforted by the love from his family. He was a dear friend who brought much laughter and happiness into my life. He was a true gentleman, generous, kind and thoughtful to everyone he met.

I had the pleasure of meeting Tom at a holiday brunch at the Mission BarBQ last Dec. 5. We shared a table in a very crowded room, when he invited me to sit with him. We talked and had a nice time. That started a lovely friendship with him as we discovered how much we had in common. I loved listening to his stories and we would talk every night before bedtime. He came into my life when I needed a special friend to help me cope with the love of my life, my husband Vic after he had a stroke and never recovered.
Tom was proud of his wife and the family they had raised. He was looking forward to meeting his newest greatgrandchild. He was also looking forward to going back to line dancing. During our talks I learned he was a good cook and loved his steamed veggies. He was independent and stubborn and didn't like to ask for help.
We enjoyed watching the Orioles and Ravens games. He was at his house and I was at mine. He turned the volume off on the TV and up on the radio, because he liked the announcer better. He would laugh and say I saw something before he did because of time delay.
He had become a special part of my life and I miss him dearly. Thanks Carter Family for sharing him with me when I needed a friend. Rest in Peace Tom, I know you are happy to be with Anna and Rose Mary. Darla
