Thomas E. Pinkerton

Thomas E. Pinkerton of Hilton Head Island left his earthly home to be with his Lord in Heaven on Saturday, Aug 2, 2014. Tom was at home with his family by his side. Born on June 1, 1932 in Green Bay, WI, he received a BA from the University of Wisconsin and an MBA from Harvard University. Tom served in the US Army in Military Intelligence and Security and was honorably discharged in September 1963. He had a long career in sales and marketing, and served in executive positions at Leo Burnett Ad Agency. Upjohn Manufacturing and A.E. Staley. Tom ran his own executive recruiting company in Chicago prior to retiring in 1994. Tom and his wife Gerry moved to Hilton Head in 1997. Tom was a godly man and a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and friend. He volunteered at Hilton Head Hospital in the surgical area for a number of years and at the Family Circle Tennis Tournament during its time on HHI. Tom was a deacon at Providence Presbyterian Church. An incredibly positive attitude, a warm smile and a twinkle in his eyes served Tom well during the many challenges in his life. He was an inspiration and source of wonder for those who knew him - family, friends, physicians, nurses and all his brothers and sisters in Christ. He will be sorely missed. Tom is survived by his devoted wife Gerry and his children: Caroline Lawrence (Gray) of Paxton, FL; David Pinkerton (Jodi) of Elmhurst, IL; and Susan Lawton of Sun Prairie, WI. His grandchildren: Tamp Lawrence, Siena Pinkerton, Grant Pinkerton, Andrew Lawton and Heather Lawton; , and by his brother Steve Pinkerton (Betsy) of New Bern, NC. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to Providence Presbyterian Church, 171 Cordillo Parkway, HHI, 29928 or to Hospice Care of America, 460 Wm Hilton Pkwy, HHI 29926. A Memorial Service celebrating Tom's life will be held at Providence Presbyterian Church on Friday, August 8 at 1 pm. If you plan on attending, please do not wear black. This is a celebration of a life well lived and of God's grace, mercy and love.
