William Pullen Obituary

William "Bill" Davison Pullen, age 88 of Jarrettsville, died peacefully on May 19, 2021 surrounded by his children. Born on August 20, 1932 in Baltimore, MD, he was the son of the late Frank H. Pullen and Margaret Wickens Pullen and was preceded in death by his sister Virginia Leubecker. Married at Bethel Presbyterian Church in Madonna in 1958, he was the husband of the late Ruth Ann Spencer Pullen for 55 years.

Bill is survived by three children, all of Jarrettsville. Margie (Sam) Fielder, Jane (Greg) Burgess, and William Davison "Dave" Pullen II and 6 grandchildren, Sarah, Laura, and Samantha Fielder and Becky, Joey, and Hannah Burgess. He is also survived by his sister, June Gladfelter of Hampstead, MD.

Raised in Baltimore, he graduated from Baltimore City College in 1950. He received his BS in Education from Towson State Teachers College in 1954 and completed his Master's degree at Western Maryland College in 1964. He served in the US Army from 1954-1957 and was stationed in Japan.

Bill was always an educator spending his entire career in Baltimore County teaching social studies and driver's education. He retired after 35 years in 1992. After retiring, Bill and Ruth Ann traveled across the US in their camper making many wonderful memories.

Bill was a member of Bethel Presbyterian Church for over 60 years where he was Sunday School Superintendent for over 20 years. He served as a ruling elder, trustee, member of chancel choir and Schooner club.

Bill was a dedicated member of the Jarrettsville Lions Club achieving perfect attendance over 50 years, was a past president, and honored in 2015 as a Melvin Jones Fellow. He was a member of Boumi Shrine Howard Lodge and the Scottish Rite for over 60 years. He was proud to be a member of the General Society of Mayflower Descendants. He was also a member of the Madonna Chapter of AARP where he was president for 2 years and served as chairman for the Community Advisory Board for the Jarrettsville/Norrisville area.

Visitation will be held at McComas Celebration of Life Center, Jarrettsville, MD on Friday, May 28, 2021 from 2-4 and 6-8pm. A funeral service will be held at Bethel Presbyterian Church on Saturday, May 29, 2021 at 11am with a viewing from 10-11am. His pastor, Todd Smith, will officiate with interment in the adjoining cemetery.
