Kay, Im so very sorry about Charlies passing...I will always remember him from my childhood days when he played fast pitch softball and he would pay me a penny a pitch when I caught for him! My Kellogg days with him were so much fun also as he would make everyone crack up! He had this sense of humor like no other!!! He will be missed very much! Love, Ricky Zanetti

Kay and Family I can't watch a softball game and not think of Chuck. He was so unselfish with his time and willing to help any kid who would come workout. How many young ladies were blessed to have him for a coach! Thanks for sharing him with us. He taught me everything about the game and what fun it could be.

I was very sorry to hear this news. as Chuck was a great coach for his caring, respect, and knowledge of the game. It was great for the girls over the years to have a coach that was so dedicated to them and took the time to coach outside of his work and family. He truly gave back to his community all of those years.

Kay and Boys
It seems we are not suppose to lose those who are younger than us. It is difficult to believe Charles is gone. May the angels give you strength and courage you need during this time. He was one of my favorite cousins and I dearly love his mom, my Auntie.

Kay and the Slauson family - Diane and I are saddened to read of Chuck's passing. The notes left on this page are a great tribute to a good man. He clearly had a positive influence on many young ladies in his role as coach and mentor. Our girls, Sarah and Molly, were among the fortunate to have him as coach. I echo Diale T's comments and add that Chuck provided a safe and positive environment for our daughters and we trusted him. Thanks Coach Slau.

Kay and family,
Our prayers are with you and your family in this time of sorrow. "Charlie change" is undoubtably baffling hitters in heaven as he did here in the circle. He was a great guy who always had time for kids as I remember growing up at the ballpark with the Marauders. May he rest in peace with the Lord.

Very sad to hear of Coach Slau's passing. He was a great coach and I will always remember him in his U of M shirts, his Lakeview hat, dragging the field with his little ford truck and mattress spring and a smile on his face after one of his jokes. He had a way of motivating/encouraging us in our own special way. He will be missed by many.
March 24, 2011
Chuck loved sports and the spirit of competition. His special talents were passing that love along to others and showing them how to enjoy games as a lifelong passion. I am sorry to hear he got called away from this world's contests, but I know Saint Peter will have a new team assignment for him on a heavenly diamond. To Chuck's family and to all who mourn his passing, I offer my sincerest sympathies. Truly, NkBatch (LHS'63 classmate and friend).

So sad to hear of Coach Slau's passing. I was on his last softball team he coached at LHS in 1994. He was the a great coach - both motivating and intense, but also supportive and a lot of fun. I remember clearly that whenever we played a game within a 40 mile radius of Jackson, we had to stop at this particular icecream place on the way home where they made like 12-scoop sundaes. We all got such a kick out of his fun-loving personality. Great memories!

My first job at Kellogg's in 1971 involved time-studying Chuck and the rest of the window-washer crew for a summer. Even though we we on opposite sides of the fence (salaried and union), there was never any animosity. Chuck had a great sense of humor, and always made the job fun. Over the years, we remained friends, and I attended several of his softball games to watch him pitch. He was a wonderful guy, and I'm sure he will be greatly missed. My prayers are with the family.

My thoughts and prayers go out to Coach Slauson or "Charlie"'s family. He was a great man. He taught me many things during softball camps he would put on for pitchers and being a catcher I got to along! Since I didn't go to BCC or LHS, he rooted for and against me while going against him while giving me a hard time! It was a great memory having him teach my pitchers so much! Thanks again for all your talent you shared!

Our daughters were very fortunate to have Chuck as their softball coach. He had a unique ability to make the game fun for teenage girls at the same time motivate them to do their best. As fathers we can appreciate how difficult this is at times. Also as fathers we appreciated the way the game was played under his coaching, they played the game right.
Chuck was appreciated and will be remembered by many people when you consider the number of girls and their families Chuck reached through his coaching career.
