Edward Yoder Obituary

Edward B. Yoder Marshall Edward B. Yoder, age 84, of Marshall, died at Tendercare of Marshall on April 18, 2010. Ed was born in Nappanee, Indiana to Ben P. and Ida (Miller) Yoder, one of twelve children. Ed farmed until entering the U.S. Army to serve in the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in 1952 and returned to the Colon area. He lived there for many years and then moved to Tennessee. He later moved to Marshall with his wife Mauvean. Ed was married to his beloved Mauvean Baker on October 22, 1966 in Colon. Ed's readily admitted goal in life was always Mauvean's happiness first and foremost! They enjoyed a fruitful and loving marriage of 37 years until Mauvean preceded him in death on July 12, 2004. Ed worked for many years as a meat cutter in the grocery industry. Locally he had practiced his trade at Bill's Bi-Rite and Stanley Packing. After his retirement he worked in downtown Marshall at the Two Hour Dry Cleaner's, Herman's Hardware, Redman's Paint and the Stage Coach. This gave Ed, who was a true people person with a helpful and giving nature, many enjoyable days. He was a member of the Masonic Order in Colon. Ed was a Life Member of Stanley E. Lamb Post 4073 in Marshall and had been an American Legion member in Colon. He had been a member of Claude E. Hale Post 4073 VFW. Ed loved golfing and liked to bowl. Army reunions were enjoyed over many years. He attended church regularly while able. A secret pleasure shared with Ed and daughter, Martha, were the occasional beer he enjoyed without Mauvean's knowledge at the Stage Coach with a "beer coupon" supplied by Martha! Surviving are his daughters, Martha (Chuck) Baker of Marshall, Linda (Delmer) England of Homer, and son Carl (Nancy) Sanland of Calhoun, Georgia; 8 grandchildren, Charles Sanland, Michael Jennings, David Jennings, Brent Jennings, Ted Lutzke, Charity Long and Charles Baker II; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; his sisters, Fannie May, Iva, Sylvia, Alma, Clara, and brothers, Mel and Lonnie; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Paul England, and sister, Molly Marie as an infant, and brothers, Phineas, Alvin, and Levi. Friends may call at Craig K. Kempf Funeral Home and Cremation Services on Wednesday 2 p.m.-8 p.m. with family present 2 p.m.-4 p.m. and 6 p.m.-8 p.m. to greet friends and share memories. Funeral services to celebrate his life will be held on Thursday, April 22 at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Rev. James Codde officiating. Interment will follow at Ft. Custer National Cemetery with military honors. Memorials may be made to the Tendercare Resident Council at Kempf Funeral Home. Uncle Ed....such a memorible man in my eyes as a child growing up. Memories I will never forget. 'Doc' as we knew him, always had a smile on his face, a joke to share, a man of kindness....of kindred spirit. I will miss him.
Martha, thank you for caring for him and always being there for him. My greatest appreciation to you is beyond words. Thank you so much. My thoughts are with you and your family.
