Obituary of Lydia S Yoder

Lydia Yoder, 98, of Oakland, MD, passed away February 11, 2026, at the home of her daughter with family by her side.

She was born on April 20, 1927, in Lancaster, PA, to the late Noah D. and Rachel (Stoltzfus) Zook.

Also preceding her in death were her husband Alvin Yoder in 2009; three sons, Eli, Noah, and Henry Yoder; a grandson, Jason Yoder; a daughter-in-law, Cora (Schrock) Yoder, and five siblings, Joel (in infancy), Rebecca, Fanny, Miriam, and Christian. She was the last remaining member of her immediate family for over 17 years.

Lydia was a member of the Gortner Amish Church. A devout Christian from her youth, she loved reading her Bible and was able to continue even as she declined. She was a homemaker, a gardener, and a caregiver for her handicapped son, Henry, for as long as she was able. She enjoyed making quilts and being with her family and friends. She will be remembered for her many helpful deeds, for singing hymns with her beautiful voice as she went about her work, for her deep trust in God, and for her patient spirit during her invalid years.

She is survived by three children, Rachel and husband, Rufus Peachey (with whom she resided for 10 years), John and wife, Rhoda (Kindy)(Byler) Yoder, Nancy and husband, Henry Bender, all of Oakland, MD; a daughter-in-law, Sadie (Stoltzfus) Yoder, widow of Noah, of Sudlersville, MD; 19 grandchildren, and 27 great-grandchildren.

Friends will be received at the Gortner Amish Church, 3271 Mason School Road, Oakland, MD 21550, on Friday, February 13, 2026, from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm. Funeral services will be held at 10 am Saturday, February 14, 2026, at Gortner Amish Church with Bishop Alvin Beachy officiating. Interment will follow in the Gortner Amish Cemetery.

The Arthur H. Wright Funeral Home, 105 Highland Avenue, Terra Alta, WV, is honored to be assisting the family.
