Evelyn Pulsipher Obituary

Evelyn Rosemary Pulsipher Tamarac, FL Evelyn Rosemary Pulsipher, 95, recently of Tamarac, Florida, slipped peacefully into the hands of God early Friday morning, February 27, 2009. Born May 10, 1913, the first child of Hilda and Harley Van Wormer of Battle Creek, Michigan, she attended St. Philip Catholic School and later, Argubright Business College. A clever seamstress, accomplished pianist with a creative bent for sculpting clay busts, she also shone as a slim, brunette beauty, winning second prize in a local beauty contest at age 19, losing out only to a Mae West-type buxom blonde, all the rage at the time. Her contest picture, appearing in the newspaper, was not lost on a certain brash young man by the name of Wayne Pulsipher, who boasted to his friends, 'That's the girl I'm going to marry!" And so he did a few years later, a marriage that produced three children and lasted 15 years. Evelyn used her business training to good advantage at Post Cerals/General Foods for 25 years, spending many vacations as a world traveler before retiring at age 63. She shared her early retirement years alternately with her two younger sisters, Arlene Aronson and Vivian Whalen, both of whom preceded her in death, as did her brother Harold, and made her final home in Tamarac with her younger daughter, Kathleen Hendershot. She is survived as well by her youngest sibling, Rita Ladewig of Hemet, California; her son, Wayne Arno Pulsipher, Jr. and daughter-in-law, Ruth, of Nampa, Idaho; nephew, David Lynn Aronson of South Dakota; her elder daughter, Joan Carol Pulsipher of Berkeley, California; 9 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and 4 great-great grandchildren. A memorial service with be held Saturday, March 7, 2009 at the Baird-Case Funeral Home in Tamarac. Interment will be in the Battle Creek Memorial Park, Battle Creek, Michigan. May her loving spirit forever rest in peace.

I am her grandaughter Beatrice, Kathleen daughter. We love you and miss you Grandma...

Grandma was always there for me growing up living with her in Urbandale. How she sacrifice a lot for her grandchildren and children.
She was a woman of God and always had us saying our prayers at night before we went to bed. She would also take us to church and on summer vacations. She was very wise and once as young girl 35 years ago she predicted that we would one day have a black president. I will miss her and her spirit lives on in our hearts. We all carry a part of Grandma that will never die.

love,
Beatrice

I want to say how sorry I am for the passing of your family member. I am trying to find out if she was related to our family. I see that her fathers name is Harley VanWormer. My grandmother was a VanWormer and Had a brother named Harley. Her name was Ethel (VanWormer) Potter. Some of her sisters names were Murtie, Nettie, Blanch and I remember a Vin and Henry. My greatgrand mother had about 10 to 12 children and then greatgrandpa died and she married a Reed. Please let me know if anyone remembers anything. Again I want to tell you how sorry I am.
