Glicerio B. Lopez, M.D.

Battle Creek

Glicerio B. Lopez, M.D., 72, of Battle Creek died at Bronson Battle Creek on Saturday, January 9, 2016.

Dr. Lopez was born December 21, 1943 in Cabuyao, Laguna, Philippines to Nicanor and Maria (Baterina) Lopez. He grew up in the Philippines and came to the United States at the age of 22. While in the US, he became known as "Jerry" to his many friends. From 1981 until retiring in 2014, Dr. Lopez practiced as an Internist at Associated Medical Group (now known as Borgess Internal Medicine) in Battle Creek with his partner Dr. Montie Gould, M.D.

Jerry married his sweetheart Pauline "Polly" Navarro on June 2, 1968 in Modesto, California. Surviving are his loving wife, Polly; two sons, Nick (Elizabeth) Lopez of Chicago, IL, and Santiago (Alice) Lopez of Jackson, MI; five grandchildren, Zander, Landon, Mariah, Carter and Samuel; three sisters, Delia Ismael, Sally (Rudy) Arzadon, and Juanita Lopez; and a brother, Jose (Cecilia) Lopez.

Jerry's passion was spending time with his five grandchildren. He enjoyed traveling and flower gardening with Polly. He volunteered on three medical mission teams that helped serve impoverished areas in his native Philippines. Jerry was a member of the American Medical Association and the Michigan State Medical Society. He will be remembered as a caring physician, loving grandfather, devoted father and a precious husband.

The family will receive friends from 11am-1pm and 6-8pm on Friday and 10-11am on Saturday at the Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home. Funeral services will be officiated by Pastor Lyle Dye at 11am Saturday, January 16, 2016 at the funeral home. Interment will follow at the Morgan Cemetery in Battle Creek.

Dear Mrs Lopez,
I apologize for my untimely response.
Your husband took care of me for over 25 years, even when it was probably not easy.
I want you to know one of the last times I saw him, he hugged me and told me I was one of his special few.
I want you to know that in my 63 years of life, he is the finest man..the finest human being I have ever known. And the last time he saw me, I did tell him that Mrs Lopez.
God bless You for your loss. Heaven has regained one of Its finest of Angel's. I look forward to the day I can shake this mans hand again. I know that the two of you will always be Eternally together. I would like you to know that my friend spoke often of his love for his grandchildren, and of his love for you.
This great man is responsible for my new wife from olango island, Cebu. Herminigilda Elumba. Actually I fly to Manila next month to marry this wonderful woman. She is 51, and without Dr Lopez's impression on me for the beautiful people of the Philippines.. I would have never found her.
Thank You for loving such a wonderful man, he has left a mark on the world..few men will ever accomplish.

I'll always remember when Dr. Lopez spoke words of comfort when we were troubled about our daughter's skull tumor. It was in a church setting that he took the time to look at our daughter, ask us a few questions, and tell us that the tumor was very less likely to be cancer. We respected him, and trusted his words, and it gave us some peace of mind til we could get her treated. Thank you for touching our lives.

Dr. Lopez made such a huge impact on my life. I had the pleasure of working for him. He taught me so much and was a very patient man. He could see my passion for the medical field and did whatever he could to teach me. What an amazing teacher he was. He always spoke to us about his family. He loved being a husband, father and grandfather. He will be missed dearly.
