Lena McCarty Obituary
Battle Creek
86, went to be with the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Tuesday, December 16, 2014, at home surrounded by her loved ones. She was born on June 16, 1928, the daughter of Ed Lee Graham and Lillian (Jones) Graham.
Lena lived in Arkansas until she moved to Battle Creek in 1954 with her husband M.T. Fant who passed in 1967. She later married James McCarty, a Pastor at Champion Street Church of God in Christ and was the First Lady until he passed. She later became a member of Bethlehem Church of God in Christ, First Pentecostal Church of God in Christ, and Agape Ministries. She then moved to New Harvest Christian Center under Pastor Ivan and Tina Lee. She was a church mother until her passing.
Lena is survived by her children: Mary Jean Williams, Vernice (Alison) Fant-Crittenden, Melvin (LaRoyce) Fant, Herman (Chandra) Fant and Gary (Marianne) Fant; Derick Waters and Renita (Tyrone) McClendon whom she raised. Eighteen Grandchildren, a host of great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and a goddaughter, Lavone Kemp. Siblings: Ida (Percy), Bernice (Scoun), Delores, Freddy, Pastor LeOdis (Sandy) Graham, and Arthur. Very dear friends: Fannie L. Drain, Rose Simms, Louella Hess and so many more. She was preceded in death by her Father, Mother, Daughter, Gloria Watson, siblings, Eddie, Johnny B., Herman, Pearline, Louise and Ira.
Lena enjoyed church and the ministry. She prided herself on mentoring young people and reading the bible. She was a wonderful cook and her sweet potato pies were famous. Lena attended Marian Burch Adult Day Care Center where she enjoyed activities and socialization. She was a wonderful mother as well as a friend to so many, and will be greatly missed.
Visitation will be held at 11 a.m. followed by a funeral service at the New Harvest Christian Center, 155 W. Van Buren Ave., on Tuesday, December 23, 2014, at 12 noon with Pastor Ivan Lee officiating.
Interment will take place at Oak Hill Cemetery.
Memorial tributes may be made to Heartland Hospice or Marian E. Burch Adult Day Care Center.

My sincere condolences to the family and friends. I worked with her at the WHUMC in the eighties. She cooked delicious meals for the hungry and homeless in the community. Well done thy good and faithful servant. See you in heaven.
