Maxine Lois (Jarman) Leyda

Leesburg, FL - 8/29/1924-12/4/2017, age 93, born August 29, 1924 to Eris and Georgia (Billings) Jarman, passed away on Monday, December 4, 2017. Born in Hastings, Michigan, she was the middle child of five: Elaine TenBrink, Duane Jarman, Eleanor Ostroth, and Eugene Jarman. She was involved in softball at Hastings High School and graduated in 1942. She worked at the Hasting Banner and Consumers power, while she took up bowling and played softball in the city league. She enjoyed bowling and Wii bowling until her death. She was introduced to her future husband Carl, by friends Bob Gibson and Marjorie Reed, and they were married at Hastings Methodist Church on Sept. 13, 1947 at ages 23 and 25. The couple had their 3 children in Michigan. During their 18 years in Battle Creek, Michigan, Maxine was active in an MSU Extension group, bowling, square dancing, vegetable gardening, raising fruit trees, canning the harvest and raising three children alongside of Carl. The family enjoyed many great summers at the Jarman family cottage on Gun Lake near Hastings. Maxine and Carl moved to Florence, Alabama when Carl's company moved to Tennessee just across the Alabama border. In 1989 Maxine & Carl moved to Scottish Highlands in Leesburg, Florida where they were involved in the community, made many good friends and lived until Carl's passing in 2016. Maxine was active in the community office, production of the community newsletter, Crafty Ladies, tennis, and particularly bingo. A beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, friend and neighbor, Maxine was preceded in death by her husband Carl, grandson Matthew Leyda, and sister Lucille Bryant. Surviving are sister Alice Hegwood of St. Petersburg, FL, son Marvin Leyda (Gloria) of Ocala, FL, daughter Diane (Mike) Gaertner of Middleville, MI, and daughter Suzanne (Russ) Rinckey of Kingsley, MI. Also surviving is sister Alice Hegwood, niece Sheila Kirkwood, nephews David and Randy Hegwood, grandchildren Kristen Vendur, Patrick and Jason Rinckey, and great-grandchildren Mercedes and Carson Vendur, Maya Gaertner and Lyla, Jade, Elise and Serenity Rinckey. Maxine will be laid to rest at Oakridge Cemetery in Marshall after a private service at a later date. Arrangements have been entrusted to Steverson, Hamlin & Hilbish Funerals and Cremations, 226 E.
