Ret. Sgt. Maj. Robert E. Ferrand Sr., age 92, of Mountain Home passed from this world to his eternal heavenly home on June 7, 2024.
Robert was born in Terre Haute, Indiana, on July 16, 1931. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1948 and bravely served his country. Robert valued his service highly leading to him obtaining the rank of Sergeant Major.
As an infantry soldier, he served and defended his country both in the Korean and Vietnam wars. During the Korean war, he served with the 2nd Infantry Division, being engaged in numerous combat missions as well as The Battle of Heartbreak Ridge. During the service of his country, he received numerous awards and citations, among them the Combat Infantryman Badge CIB (second award), Purple Heart and the Meritorious Service Metal with two Oak Leaf Clusters.
During his career, he served at numerous bases both stateside and overseas. Among his overseas assignments were tours in Germany, Turkey and Japan. He retired in 1976 with 28 years of active military service.
He is preceded in death by his father, Orville Ferrand; mother Mary Holler; three brothers, Tom, Jack and Donnie Ferrand; his first wife of 44 years, Louise C. Ferrand; and his second wife of 24 years, Marilyn A. Ferrand.
He is survived by his sister, Patricia Banks; his son, Ret. Maj. Robert E. (Stephanie) Ferrand Jr.; his daughter, Renee M. (Joe) Schlink; stepson Dr. Tom (Pattie) Johnson; stepdaughters Kathy (Mike) Regan, Cindy Tipsord; grandchildren Joshua (Laura) Schlink, Christopher (Emily) Ferrand, Jeremy Schlink, Sydney Ferrand; and step-grandchildren, Lauren Hancock and Jim (Megan) Houser. Also surviving are six great-grandchildren, Sofia, Olivia, Isabella and Nicholas Schlink, Kynley, Nora Ferrand; and two step-great grandchildren Reece and Gwynn Hancock. He also is survived by a host of loving step-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 15 at St. Peter the Fisherman Catholic Church. Following Mass, Robert will be laid to rest at Baxter Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice of the Ozarks or Elite Home Health.
