Florence J. Krebs Samson

Florence J. Krebs Samson was born on January 2, 1917 near Humphrey, Nebraska and passed away in Friendswood, Texas on January 1, 2012, which was one day before her ninety-fifth birthday. She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 Years, Frank Larsen Samson; her brother, Kenneth Krebs; and her sister, Delores Kramer. She is survived by her daughter Virginia Samson of Anchorage, Alaska; daughter Betsy Dial and husband Chuck of Houston, Texas; son Tom Samson and wife Nannette of Friendswood, Texas; son Marty Samson and wife Sharon of Houston, Texas; grandson Ryan Samson and wife Diana of Spring, Texas; granddaughter Amber Miessner and husband Peter of Friendswood, Texas; granddaughter Alicia Samson; grandson Mark Samson, both of Houston, Texas. She was great-grandmother to Benjamin Samson, Molly Samson, Macy Miessner, and Landon Samson. She is also survived by her sister Eileen Ryan and husband Wayne of Omaha, Nebraska; brother Art Krebs and wife Phyllis of Council Bluffs, Iowa; sister Thelma Krohn of Albion, Nebraska; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Florence began her extraordinary life as the eldest of six siblings growing up on a ranch near Humphrey, Nebraska. After graduating in 1938 from Creighton University School of Nursing in Omaha, Nebraska, she went to work for the U.S. Public Health Service in New York City and later San Francisco. In 1942 she met a handsome young Merchant Mariner and later Coast Guard Officer from Blue Point, Long Island, New York and they married on August 19, 1942. During their married life they lived in Norfolk, Virginia, Cincinnati, Ohio, St. Louis, Missouri, New Orleans, Louisiana, Houston, Texas, and Rockport Texas where they enjoyed retirement for 27 years.

Florence worked as a registered nurse, was an avid gardener, an accomplished pianist, a dedicated bridge player, and a longtime member of The Order of the Eastern Star and AARP. She also devoted much of her time to volunteer work which included organizing meals and activities for senior citizens, teaching defensive driving classes, working at the Cast Aways shop in Rockport, TX, and serving as an election judge in Aransas County. Florence was a devoted and faithful wife, a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and a loyal friend. She touched many lives and will never be forgotten.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday Jan. 14th, 2012, at 10am, at Crowder Funeral Home. 2422 Broadway, Pearland TX, 77581.
