I met Jim in 2009- we were living a few doors down from each other at an apartment in Friendswood. I met him one day while he was letting his dog out. We struck up a friendship and I would visit him a few times a month.
I was amazed at Jim's life story. He told me about his first job working 70 hours per week as an elevator operator during the Great Depression. He went on to say how thankful he was to have job during that time.
He told me a bit about his time in the army during the latter part of WWII--stepping on a landmine which took part of his leg. He spent a long time in a military hospital but went onto a successful career and started a family.
I was amazed at his sharp mind and that he lived without assistance and still drove his car into his early nineties.
During football season, we would watch games together sometime and I was amazed to see that he knew as much about pro football than any of my thirty-something guy friends.
Jim, you were a pleasure to get to know and I am thankful to have been friends with you. Rest in peace,my friend.
