Jo Ann Garrett, 79, of Seabrook, Texas, went home to be with the Lord Jesus Christ on July 1, 2014. It was her wedding anniversary and she was in the town in which she was born. She was at peace and with her family.
Jo Ann was born on July 23, 1934 in S. Charleston, West Virginia. She was one of five children born to the late Henry Kipling and Margaret Thompson Fox of S. Charleston, WV. Jo Ann graduated from South Charleston High School and on July 1, 1952 she married Edward Gordon Garrett of St. Albans, WV. The couple had three children, Laura Jo, Jim and Bill.
In 1973 the family moved from Spring Hill, WV to Clear Lake, TX where Eddie continued his career with Union Carbide. Jo Ann spent her days as a devoted wife and loving mother. She was also an avid golfer and the couple enjoyed many years golfing at Baywood Country Club.
Jo Ann worked for many years for Matthews, Madson & Kelley and was a faithful member of the Seabrook United Methodist Church where she enjoyed women's bible study, exercise classes and serving as a volunteer for the Society of Saint Stephen Community Outreach.
Jo Ann leaves behind three children: Laura Jo Garrett of Seabrook, TX, James Garrett of Seabrook, TX and Bill Garrett and his wife Jill of Tampa, FL. She leaves behind four beloved grandchildren, Austin Baker of San Marcos, TX, Madison and Kendall Garrett of Tampa and Joshua Garrett of Texas City, TX and two sisters who faithfully served her until the very end: Connie Atkinson of Keyser, WV and Eleanor Henson of Alum Creek, WV. She is survived by many nieces and nephews that were near to her heart and was preceded in death by her husband, Eddie, her brother, Paul Fox of S. Charleston, WV and Pauline Huffman of Elk Creek, VA.
The family is planning a Celebration of Life ceremony at Seabrook United Methodist Church on July 26th at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please feel free to send all cards and monetary donations to Society of St. Stephens 3300 Lakeside Drive, Seabrook, TX 77586.
