Mary Ann LaVoy Grimsrud, 83, of Friendswood, Texas went to be with her Lord peacefully on Sunday June 5, 2016. She was the loving wife of Tom of 64 1/2 years; loving mother of Jim Grimsrud and wife Kathy, Annette Kyle, and Elizabeth Botkin and husband Jason, and loving grandmother of Brian Grimsrud, Jeff Grimsrud and wife Laura, Shannon Kyle Easterling and husband Cole, Madalyn Botkin and Brooke Botkin.
Mary Ann was born to Bill and Mary LaVoy on August 3, 1932 in Superior, Wisconsin. She was the second of six girls. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister Agnes. She is also survived by her sisters Barbara, Phyllis, Helen and Sharon.
She married Thomas Grimsrud of South Range, Wisconsin on December 29, 1951 in Chicago. They were transferred to Houston, Texas February 1, 1953, happily leaving behind -29 degree weather. They built a house in Friendswood in 1962, a community of 660 people at that time, and raised their family there.
Mary Ann loved her family, her neighbors, and her church. She cooked and baked daily. Her home was always a busy and happy gathering place. She loved holidays and celebrated them all with gusto. She survived breast cancer in 2011 but pancreatic cancer proved to be an unsurmountable foe.
Friends are cordially invited to the visitation with the family on Tuesday, June 7, 2016 from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at the Jeter Memorial Funeral Home Chapel, 311 N. Friendswood Dr, Friendswood, Texas 77546.
A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, June 8, 2016 at 2:00 P.M. at the Mary Queen Catholic Church 606 Cedarwood Dr., Friendswood, Texas with Deacon Darrell Moulton officiating. A burial will be held immediately following at Friends Church Cemetery (1/2 block away), followed by a reception at Mary Queen Family Hall to celebrate her life and her family legacy.
