Olive Lillian Oxspring Martinson, 98, of Friendswood, Texas went home to rejoice in heaven on Saturday, March 29, 2014. She was born August 8, 1915 to Fredrick James Oxspring and Lilly Varley Oxspring in Cleveland, Ohio. Olive moved with her family to Texas when she was 4 years old.
She became an Air Force wife when she married her husband, Lloyd Kenneth Martinson, on March 16, 1946. Olive's being transferred with "Marty" to Air Force bases in Texas (3), Japan, Iowa, Montana and Colorado while raising two children, maintaining the household and being an untiring, selfless wife to her husband is testament to her amazing strength. Thru all this she never wavered on her faith. At each new base she would seek out an Assembly of God church, which is where she and the kids would be every Sunday.
Olive worked at a textile mill with her father in her younger years. Olive also was known as a "Rosie the Riveter" during WWII at Hughes Tools, in Houston, Texas. But the best job she had in her lifetime was being a wonderful wife, mother and friend to all that knew her. She was best known as Granny. Olive never met a stranger. She had a full and blessed life. She was a proud member of New Life Fellowship Church and felt the congregation was her second family.
Olive has joined her husband, Lloyd, her sisters Beatrice and Marguerite, her brothers Harry and Harold, father Fredrick and mother Lillian in heaven.
She is survived by her daughter Shirley Dianne Cotie and husband, William, her son, James Martinson and wife, Darla, seven grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews who meant so much to her, and many other relatives and cherished friends.
Friends are cordially invited to the visitation with the family on Tuesday, April 1, 2014 between 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM at Jeter Memorial Funeral Home Chapel, 311 N. Friendswood Dr., Friendswood, TX 77546 (281) 992-7200.
