Quincy John Vandervort, 85, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, June 6, 2017 after a short battle with cancer. Quincy was born on April 9, 1932 to parents Perry and Jean (Gayle) Vandervort in Madill, Oklahoma in Marshall County. He was born in the same room as his father and in the home belonging to his grandfather John William Vandervort. Quincy married Helen Mary Benson on December 27, 1958 and was happily married for 44 years until her passing in 2003. He proudly served his county in the United States Navy from 1951 to 1955. He was employed with Ford Aerospace, Rockwell Shuttle Operations, and retired from NASA after 25 years. He married Ruth Leach in June 30, 2007. Together they shared 10 happy years in Seabrook. Quincy loved spending time gardening, tending to his flowers, and taking care of his family.
Quincy was preceded in death by his first wife, Helen Mary Vandervort; parents, Perry and Jean Vandervort; daughter Audrey Marie Vandervort; son Mark Leach; son in law Steven McDaniel; and brother Perry Vandervort.
He is survived by his wife of 10 years, Ruth Ann Vandervort; children: son Jeff and wife Jeanne, daughter Gaye and husband David, daughter Debbie and husband Geary, daughter Sheryl and husband Charles, daughter Susan and husband Chris, and son Mike and wife Diana; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; and sister Joy Slape.
Friends were cordially invited to attend a visitation with the family on Friday, June 9, 2017 from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. at Jeter Funeral Home Chapel, 311 N. Friendswood Dr., Friendswood, Texas 77546. A memorial service was held on Saturday, June 10, 2017 at 10:00 A.M. at Jeter Funeral Home Chapel. Memorial donations can be made in his name to the American Cancer Lung Association. Condolences can be sent to the family in care of Jeter Funeral Home at www.jeterfuneralhome.com.
