Spencer Wallace Chaffin, Jr., 60, of Friendswood, passed away on Tuesday, February 13, 2018. Spencer was born on February 13, 1958 in Hartselle, Alabama to parents Spencer Wallace Chaffin, Sr and Mabell (Childers) Pruitt.
Spencer graduated from Alvin High School in 1977. He was employed at Team, Inc. (Alvin) before joining Monsanto in June of 1978. Spencer began his career with Monsanto as a processor in the SAB unit and worked there for 21 months before transferring to Olefins in March of 1980 for the start-up of the new unit. In late 1981, Spencer transferred to the Safety Department, where he was promoted to Fire Safety Inspector. In 1988, he transferred to NTA-IDA-STS for the start-up of the new STS unit. In June of 1999, Spencer was promoted to his present job as a Shift Coordinator.
Spencer has served as a member of the Fire Crew since his new employment. He worked at Chocolate Bayou for 39 1/2 years. During the 1980's and 1990's, Spencer served as a volunteer for the Alvin Fire Department, the Alvin Police Department, the Fire Marshall, as well as an EMT Intermediate.
Spencer loved his family, God and helping others.
Spencer is survived by his wife "Sweetie" Gloria del Socorro Reyes Salazar; and a large extended family.
As Spencer always said, "Safety is personal".
Friends are cordially invited to attend a visitation with the family from 3:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. on Sunday, February 18, 2018 at Jeter Memorial Funeral Home, 311 N. Friendswood Dr., Friendswood, TX 77546, (281) 992-7200.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, February 19, 2018 at Jeter Memorial Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Houston Memorial Gardens, 2426 Cullen Blvd, Pearland, TX 77581.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Spencer's name to MD Anderson Cancer Center.
