Lawrence McCarthy Obituary

Lawrence L. McCarthy passed away peacefully at his home Thursday morning, June 25, 2020 at the age of 91 years. He was born March 16, 1929 to the late William E. and Margaret (Jennings) McCarthy in Bay City. Larry was a man of many talents and interests which led him to pursue his education at Michigan State University in a variety of fields. After graduation he honorably served his country in the U. S. Army during the Korean War. Larry taught Mathematics and English in school, raised vegetables and fruit which he sold at the Farmer's Market, before he began his career at the former Bay Medical Center. While there he started out as a phlebotomist before becoming the laboratory manager for over 15 years from which he retired in 1985. Afterwards, Larry was hired as a laboratory consultant. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, camping, boating, and helping others with their automotive mechanical problems. Larry was the ultimate ""DYI MAN"" whose motto was ""to do it right, do it yourself"". He was a lifetime member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and its Usher's Club before joining St. Jude Thaddeus Parish. He was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy (LaBean) McCarthy on October 4, 2011. Special thanks to Jill Majznerski for her compassionate care and love. Left to cherish his memory are his two sons and daughter: Bill and Lee McCarthy, Anne (Don) Groulx; two grandchildren: Jessica (Humberto) Sanchez, Nicholas Groulx; his sister, Dorothy Keenan; and several nieces and nephews. The Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated Monday, June 29, 2020 at 11:00 am in St. Jude Thaddeus Parish, 614 Pine St., Essexville 48732. Rev. Dale A. Orlik will preside and interment will follow in St. Patrick Cemetery with military rites under the auspices of the Bay County Veterans Council. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Wishes of the Family. In keeping with State Guidelines, social distancing and facial covering will be observed. Visiting hours with the family will be Sunday from 2:00 until 6:00 pm at the W. A. Trahan Funeral Chapel, and in church on Monday after 10:00 am. For on-line sentiments: www.trahanfc.com
