Bertha Ray Nichols, 96
GREENSBORO, Md. - Bertha Ray Nichols, of Greensboro, died Sunday, Feb. 10, 2008, at her daughter and granddaughter's home in Felton, Del. She was 96.
She was born July 31, 1911, in Henderson, to the late William and Annie Rash Phillips.
Mrs. Nichols worked as a supervisor at the Greensboro Garment Factory until her retirement.
She was a member of the St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Greensboro, and a lifetime member of the Greensboro Volunteer Fire Co. Ladies Auxiliary.
Mrs. Nichols was a very loving mother who cherished her family.
She looked forward to having her family gather for dinners throughout the year, especially on Christmas Eve and birthdays. She also enjoyed preparing dinners with her friends for the Lions Club for many years.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Charles E. Nichols; son, John William Nichols; and brothers, John Phillips and Martin Phillips.
Mrs. Nichols is survived by three daughters, Ruth Dean of Harrington, Del., Betty Shulties of Felton, Del., and Ann Stoops of Centreville; grandchildren, Lee and Margaret Dean, Lynn and Bob Outten, all of Harrington, Sheryl and Lee Ford of Wyoming, Del., Debbie and Bruce Stewart of Felton, Billy and Eva Stoops of Centreville, Terri and Mike Layton of Harrington, and Jeff and Amanda Outten of Harrington; great-grandchildren, Jason Dean, Steven and Carrie Stewart, both of Harrington, Ashlee Stewart of Felton and his fiancée, Brittney Harding of Camden, Michael Layton of Harrington, Ryan Ford of Wyoming, Andrew Layton of Harrington, Britnie Stoops, Melissa Stoops and Geneva Harrison, all of Centreville; great-great-grandchildren, Cody Outten, Addyson Raye Stewart, Margo Stewart, and Nathan Outten; and nieces and nephews, Lacey and Margaret Nichols of Dover, Grace Marker of Aston, Pa., and Grover Elliott of Glenn Mills, Pa.
Services will be 2 p.m. Friday in Fleegle and Helfenbein Funeral Home, 106 W Sunset Ave., Greensboro, where friends may call one hour prior.
Interment will be in Greensboro Cemetery, Greensboro.
