DOVER - Davis Henry Wood passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his family, on Wednesday, September 20, 2023.
Mr. Wood was born on October 4, 1934, in Milford, Delaware to his parents, the late C. Edgar Wood and the late Ruth Draper Wood.
He graduated from Milford Senior High School in 1952 and went on to attend the University of Delaware, graduating in 1956 with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting.
He was the President of L&W Insurance Agency for 55 years. He was also successful in other businesses such as restaurants, residential properties, farmland management, and commercial real estate.
Mr. Wood was a longtime member of the Lions Club of Milford, Delaware. In addition, he was on the Kalmar Nyckel Board of Directors, Co-Founder of County Bank, and on the United Restaurant Group Board of Directors.
While Mr. Wood was regularly active in business and civic activities, his greatest passions were boating and fishing. He owned and operated many boats, both power and sail from 1958 until his death. He was an avid sailor and water-skier in his early years and was the driving force behind numerous offshore fishing tournament victories from New Jersey to Florida from 1988 to 2015. He also enjoyed wood working and model ship building.
He is survived by his sons, Bruce Wood and his wife Colleen, of Severna Park, MD and Douglas Wood and his wife Katie, of Dover, DE; and his grandchildren, Ryan, Lindsay, and Caroline Wood, and Nelson and Lenna Wood.
Memorial services will be held at 5:00PM, Wednesday, September 27, 2023, at Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 E. Lebanon Road (Rt.10), Dover, Delaware. Friends may call one hour prior. Interment will be private at Barrett's Chapel Cemetery, Frederica, Delaware.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to Milford, DE Lions Club.
