Jennifer Whitesell Obituary
Jennifer Whitesell passed away on August 5th, 2023, after a sudden illness. She will be remembered as a beloved wife, extraordinary mother, fierce friend, and lifelong teacher.
She is survived by husband, Maj Gen (Ret) Todd McCubbin; daughters, Rachel McCubbin and Jessica O'Malley; son-in-law, Max O'Malley; brother, Christopher Whitesell; sister-in-law, Laura Whitesell; and niece, Natalie Whitesell.
Jennifer was born on October 15th, 1963, in Minneapolis, MN. She met the love of her life at the University of Wisconsin, where she earned her degree in journalism. The Air Force took them on a whirlwind adventure to Texas, California, and Canada, before finally settling in Delaware.
Jennifer earned her master's degree in education and started her teaching career at Dover Central Middle School. She later moved to Fifer Middle School, before finding a home at Polytech Adult Education. She served in several leadership positions at the Caesar Rodney Education Association and the Delaware State Education Association Retired.
As a senior military spouse, Jennifer sought every opportunity to make positive changes for reserve military families. She touched the lives of many service members and their support networks. Jennifer's life motto was "it's all part of the adventure." Also known as just "POTA." She traveled the world with family and dear friends, making great memories at the beaches of Hawaii, the pyramids of Egypt, the savannas of South Africa, the Arctic Circle, and so many more.
Jennifer has a wide network of friends around the world, and she will be missed by many.
Please join us for a celebration of her life at Maple Dale Country Club on Sunday, August 13th from noon to 3 PM. We ask that you wear bright, happy colors in Jennifer's honor. Please leave the formal suits and black dresses at home! If you have plans with friends, family, traveling or a special event, Jennifer would want you to make those memories together. You will be with us in spirit and prioritizing the things Jennifer loved the most.
Jennifer was a passionate activist and ally. In lieu of flowers, please donate to an organization of your choice supporting animals, the environment, human rights, or Planned Parenthood.
