Larry Keith Kanniard, Sr. went home to be with his wife and family on April 6, 2023, surrounded by his loving family.
Larry was born on March 26, 1942 in Columbus, Ohio to the late Glenna and Delbert Kanniard. Larry proudly served in the United States Air Force retiring with the rank of Msgt. in 1982. He was hired by Midas Muffler upon retirement from the AF where he worked until he was hired on with Civil service at DAFB. He dedicated his life to the service of his country and civil service. He worked at DAFB for over 50 years. He is a Vietnam Veteran and has dedicated his life to the military and his country until the very end. He was stationed in England, France, Vietnam, Iran and finally retiring at DAFB. Larry obtained his bachelor's degree in accounting in 1986 from Wilmington University and went on to donate his time to helping those file taxes for free.
Larry started his square dance calling career in 1975 while stationed in Tehran, Iran and called his last dance in 2022. He and his wife Sharon Kanniard created The Nichol Squares in the 80's and he was the club caller for Levi and Lace, The Whirl-a-Ways and other clubs in the area to include parts of NJ and MD. Larry is one of the original founding members of The Patriot Guard. He was so proud to be a member and ride captain with an organization he loved.
In addition to parents; he was preceded in death by his wife, Sharon Kanniard of 51 years. He is survived by his daughter, Theresa Kanniard (Carrothers) and her husband Jeff Carrothers of Wyoming, De; son, Larry Kanniard Jr. and his girlfriend Ashley of Morehead City North Carolina; grandchildren, Christopher Carrothers and his wife Courtney of Cheyenne Wyoming, Somer Besherwor and her Husband Andrew of Ellettsville, Indiana, Lindsay Donovan and her husband Toby of Hartly Delaware, Ryan Kanniard and his fiancée Ashley from Winterville North Carolina, Ashton Kanniard and her fiancée Shane from Greenville North Carolina; and sister-in-law, Mary Jo Fitzpatrick from Fort Walton Beach, Florida. He was very proud to be a great grampa of eight great grandchildren; and to a host of nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of his Life will be held on Tuesday, April 11, 2023 at Pippin Funeral Home. Viewing will be from 1-3, service with full military honors will follow the viewing. A reception TBD.
