Richard Dowd, 94
SALISBURY - Richard Hoaglund Dowd died Thursday, Jan. 14, 2021, at Lakeside Assisted Living in Salisbury. Born in Bonne Terre, Mo., he was the son of the late Edward Francis and Agnes Lillian Hoaglund Dowd.
He served in the U.S. Navy as a Quartermaster on the USS LST 32 in Algeria during World War II. He graduated from the University of Missouri in 1952 and began a career as a Cartographer & Aerial Photo Analyst with the Defense Mapping Agency. In 1964, he began working for Raytheon Corp. in Washington, D.C., as a project manager. In 1972, became a project manager with NASA at the Wallops Island Facility and later at Goddard Space Flight Center, until his retirement in 1997. He was a member of the St. Francis de Sales Church in Salisbury.
He is survived by his son, Thomas Dowd; and his brother, Bernard P. Dowd. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Julia Dobrovolsky; two brothers, James D. Dowd and Robert C. Dowd; and his sister, Helen Howell.
A funeral mass was held Tuesday, Jan. 26, 2021, at St. Francis De Sales Catholic Church in Salisbury. Interment was at Wicomico Memorial Park in Salisbury.
