David (Dave) William Frensemeier Sr., 83, passed away peacefully at 7:50 p.m. on October 25, 2025, at his home in the Four Seasons community of Columbus, Indiana, surrounded by his loving wife and children.
Dave was born on February 1, 1942, in Batesville, Indiana, the second son of Lloyd ("Bud") Frensemeier and Mary (Fieler) Frensemeier. He was preceded in death by his parents; his older brother, Richard ("Dicky") Frensemeier; his younger sister, Kaysie Joliff; and his great-grandson, Christopher.
While serving in the United States Air Force and stationed in Cheyenne, Wyoming, Dave met the love of his life, Carol (Ingleby) Frensemeier. After completing his enlistment, he returned to Indiana, and the two were married, beginning a beautiful journey that lasted 57 glorious years.
Together, Dave and Carol built a loving family that includes three children: Dave Jr. (Patty) Frensemeier of Brown County, Indiana; Delores (Toby) Gibson of Hope, Indiana; and Denise (Quinten) Sass of Loveland, Colorado. They were blessed with 10 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren, all of whom were the pride and joy of Dave's life. Dave is also survived by brothers - Tim (Dot) Frensemeier and Mike (Shannon) Frensemeier and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Known affectionately as "The Keebler Man," Dave worked for A&P for 17 years before joining Keebler (later Kellogg), where he dedicated 40 years of service. His friendly nature and tireless work ethic left lasting impressions on colleagues and customers alike.
Dave had many passions throughout his life. He was an avid bowler for over 40 years, loved fishing, gardening, and traveling-especially trips to Branson, Missouri-and he cherished every moment spent with his family.
In his later years, Dave found great joy helping at Friends O' Mine Campground, which his son purchased in 2020. For the past six years, he could often be found greeting campers, picking up trash, parking RVs, or lending a hand wherever needed. He loved spending time at his camper while helping around the campground and took great pride in making everyone feel welcome.
A proud veteran, one of Dave's greatest honors came just weeks before his passing when he participated in the Indy Honor Flight at the end of September. The experience meant the world to him and served as a fitting tribute to his service and love of country.
Dave will be remembered for his warm smile, his unwavering love for his family, and his genuine kindness toward everyone he met.
The funeral service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, October 30, 2025, at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street, with Minister Gladys George and Father Chris Wadelton officiating. Family and friends may gather for visitation from 5:00 p.m. until service time Thursday.
Military Honors will be provided by the U.S. Air Force Ceremonial Unit and the Brown County Veterans Honor Guard.
In keeping with David's wishes, cremation will take place following the service and there will be a private inurnment at Garland Brook Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Our Hospice of South Central Indiana or the
Alzheimer's Association.
