Gary Eickleberry Obituary

Gary Ernest Eickleberry, 77, of Grandview Ridge in Brown County, Indiana passed away at the Indy VA Hospital on Friday October 3, 2025, holding his wife's hand.

He was born June 26, 1948 in Ogilville, Indiana into a big family. Parents were James Ernest Eickleberry and Laurette Jearldine Williams Eickleberry. He worked as a carpenter and had a lifelong love of wood, the natural world, and Brown County. He served his country in the Army, serving in Vietnam and Germany.

In his retirement he loved using his lathe to create beautiful bowls and boxes, using only the materials he found while cutting his winter supply of firewood on his beloved 35-acre farm.

He is survived by his wife and soulmate of 44 years, Christine Deprez Eickleberry, daughter Renee Deprez Branham, grandson Joshua Hobson, granddaughter Shannon Hobson, great-grandchildren Ciara Johnson, Aidan Reeves, Noah Hobson Smith, Sarah Hobson, and Alexander Hobson. Also, his sisters, Peggy (Bob) Sims and Carol Kay Waggoner, both of Bartholomew County, Indiana, and also numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.

A celebration of life will be held on Sunday October 26 at Whitecreek Conservation Club from 2-4 p.m.

Memorial gifts may be made to the Brown County Humane Society.
