Josephine Mormando Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Josephine Joanna Mormando, 77, affectionately known as "Josie," a beloved mother, grandmother and friend, announce her peaceful passing March 27, 2025. She was loved by many; her grandchildren lovingly called her "Babcie." A funeral service took place April 12 at St. Ann's Catholic Church in DeBary.
Born June 1, 1947, in Brzeznica, Poland, Josephine immigrated to the United States at age 16. With little formal education, she thrived in her new home, demonstrating resilience and determination throughout her life. Her commitment to personal growth led her to become an active member of the American Business Women's Association for more than 15 years.
Josephine was married to Frank Mormando, with whom she shared a loving union that blessed them with four children.
With a deep passion for cooking, her culinary skills reflected her rich heritage. She mastered both Polish and Italian cuisines, learning the art from her mother, Joanna, and her mother-in-law, Helen Mormando. Her kitchen was always filled with the comforting aromas of homemade meals. She took great joy in sharing her creations with family and friends.
Josephine's favorite place was the beach, where she relished long walks along the shore, collecting seashells and enjoying the simple pleasures of life alongside her children and grandchildren. When she wasn't enjoying the beach, she was enjoying her garden, where she had beautiful plants and vegetables.
Her compassion and infectious spirit of love and joy touched everyone she encountered. With a remarkable ability to make others feel welcome and cherished, her warmth and kindness will be deeply missed.
Josephine dedicated her professional life as a custodian for Volusia County Schools at Enterprise Elementary, where she was appreciated for her hard work and dedication. Additionally, she was a proud member of the DeBary Volunteer Firemen's Association Fire Support Team for 35 years, contributing her time and energy to the community she loved.
Josephine is survived by her children, Frankie Mormando, Suzanne Frandy, Lisa Olsen and Vinnie Mormando; her grandchildren, Heather Frandy, Elizabeth Frandy, Chase Kovacs, Logan Kovacs and Ryder Kovacs; her great-grandson, Braydon Ehrenkaufer; and her siblings Maria Szewczak, Stanislawa Swobodniak, Jadwiga Szczygiel, Tadeusz Aksamitowski and Jozef Aksamitowski. She was preceded in death by her siblings Stefania Aksamitowska, Mariusz Aksamitowski, Marcin Aksamitowski, Antoni Aksamitowski; and twin grandchildren, Izzabella Rose and Annabella Josephine Mormando.
