ELIZABETH SINNOCK Obituary

ELIZABETH SINNOCK Elizabeth Anne "Betty" Sinnock, 91 of Havana and formerly of Beardstown, died Tuesday, September 5, 2023 at Mason City Area Nursing Home. She was born February 28, 1932, in Dayton, OH, the daughter of Speedy T. and Lois Henderson Wherley Huffman. She married Robert K. Sinnock on August 24, 1952 and he preceded her in death on October 13, 2017. She is survived by her three daughters Mary Anne Wilson of Omaha, NE, Nancy (husband David) Jacob of Pekin, and Connie (husband Mark) Shugart of Chatham: a son-in-law Jason Jackson of Beardstown: 13 grandchildren Elizabeth (husband Kubi) Dinc, Bobby Black, Jack Robert Hamilton, Maria (husband Ben) Wallace, Josh (wife Christine) Shugart, Andrew Hamilton, Molly (husband Matt) Dewell, James (wife Cassie) Hamilton, Angela Shugart, Sarah (husband Nathan) Federwitz, McQuade Jackson, Rachel Jacob, and Haley Jackson; 16 great grandchildren Dylan Becker, Gavin Epping, Joseph Dinc, Braylon Epping, Kadyn Hamilton, Sarah Hamilton, Melissa Dinc, Ava Hamilton, Nora Hamilton, Wyatt Shugart, Isaac Shugart, Jaxyn Hamilton, Addy Dewell, Quinn Dewell, Cora Shugart, Emerson Dewell; two sisters Carol (husband Rich) Moss and Janet (husband Larverne) Maxwell; and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a daughter Barb Jackson, a sister Beverly Rayome, two brothers Richard "Dick" and William "Billy" Wherley; and a son-in-law Rick Wilson. Betty graduated from Rushville High School in the class of 1950 and attended Western Illinois University. She was a current member of the Havana First United Methodist Church. She began working in the 1960's at Meyer Grocery Store in Beardstown, and then in 1967, she started her banking career with First National Bank in Beardstown, and retired from Havana National Bank in 1999 as a Trust Officer. Betty's immense contributions extended far beyond her professional endeavors. She was a charter member of Cass County Heart Association. She was a long-time member and officer of the Beardstown Business and Professional Women's Club (BPW). As a founding member of the Beardstown (BPW) investment club in 1983, she shared her expertise during her travels garnered her fame as one of the esteemed spokeswomen for the investment club. Betty was also Past President, Education Chair, and received the honor of Director Emeritus in 2020 of Heart of Illinois Investment Council (HOIC)- National Association of Investors Corporation (NAIC) From 1993-2002 she was a National Director of NAIC, and served as Regional Coordinator for the Southeast Region. In 1994 she was appointed to the State of Illinois Security Advisory Board. From 1995-2000 she was a member of the Individual Investors Advisory Committee of the New York Stock Exchange. At the 2017 Better Investing National Conference, Betty was awarded the Janke Lifetime Service Award. Her Dedication to empowering fellow women and youth will forever be remembered. In her leisure time, Betty embraced life's simple pleasures. Whether it be spending time with her family, exploring the world with her late husband, indulging in a captivating novel, sowing the seeds of the beautiful garden, casting her fishing line into tranquil waters, or seeking hidden treasures in antique shops, Betty lived each day with a zest for life that was truly inspiring. Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Monday, September 11, 2023 at Colwell Memorial Home in Beardstown. Burial will follow in Rushville City Cemetery. The family will meet with friends from 3-5 PM Sunday at the memorial home. Memorials have been suggested to: Betty Sinnock Learning to Invest/ HOIC, a fund that will be established in her name to educate youth about investing.
