JOANN KATHRYN MCGILL
Joann Kathryn McGill, age 92, formerly of Virginia, IL. died Friday, February 7th, 2025 at home in Little Elm, TX surrounded by her loving family.
Born on June 26th, 1932 in Virginia, IL, Joann was the daughter of Edward and Emma Weaver Davidsmeier. She married Richard "Dick" McGill and together they enjoyed a wonderful life in Galesburg, IL. Never one to rest on her laurels, Joann worked at Steak and Shake, Twin Chefs, O.T. Johnsons and her favorite Kirlin's Hallmark Shop, where she could also shop for her favorite Precious Moments collectibles. Her and Dick also enjoyed living close to family in Golden, IL and later with her son Terry and his wife nearby in Texas.
Joann's biggest joys were the times spent with family including trips to Las Vegas with her sister Claralee and brother-in-law Leslie, summer road trips joined by nieces Pam and Cindy, holidays and family get-togethers with her siblings, grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchild and many nieces and nephews. She also loved working outside in the garden, and hosted many family get togethers in their backyard.
Joann is survived by son Terry (Cindy) of Frisco, TX, son Lawrence (Sue) of Raleigh, NC, daughter Karen Sue Small (Joe) of Ball Ground, GA, fourteen grandchildren, twenty-eight great grandchildren, eight great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings Velma (husband Herman) Dour, Marcella (husband Leland) DeSollar, Berdella (husband Russell) Kaiser, Frieda (husband Clifford) Wallace, Norman (wife Georgia) Davidsmeier, Johnny (wife Pat) Davidsmeier, Jimmy Davidsmeier, Mary (husband Marty) Pond, and Rose Davidsmeier in infancy and son Richard "Ric" Jr. (wife Kris) McGill.
No matter if you knew her as Mom, Grandma, Aunt Joann or Joann, her love and kindness is greatly missed. Joann had friends everywhere she went, she cared for people deeply. She had a kindness that affected everyone she met. Her love and support never wavered as she helped you through tough times. She loved to make you laugh and had a way of knowing when you needed it most. Her hugs always lifted you up and she made the best German Chocolate cake in the world.
There will be a graveside inurnment service for Joann and her husband Richard on Saturday, September 27th in Beardstown, IL. Family and friends will meet on the Davidsmeier Farm in Virginia, IL. after the service to share memories and celebrate Joann's and Richard's lives.
