LEGORA BRUNK Legora Brunk, 94, of Virginia, IL, died Thursday, January 25, 2024, at Walker Nursing Home in Virginia. She was born February 5, 1929, in Cumberland County, KY, the daughter of John Medford and Edna Norlean (Vibbart) Cary. She married John R. Brunk on September 29, 1956, in Jacksonville, and he preceded her in death on May 27, 2023. Legora is survived by two sons and one daughter, Rick Brown (deceased wife, Lou Ann) of rural Jacksonville, Gene (Christina) Brunk of Virginia, and Wanda Fay Surratt of Virginia; eight grandchildren, Brandy McGraw, Cindi Cooley, Lisa Little, Kristen Petefish, Ashley Garner, Cheyenne Barrett, Dakota Barrett, and Lynze Brunk; and thirteen great grandchildren, Krista Baker, Gage Huber, Jonathan Baker, Amare Little, C.J. Cooley, Isabella Garner, Sophie McGraw, Aidan Garner, Payten Petefish, Paxton Petefish, Lee Little, Finley Garner, and Justice Little. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and two brothers, Gene Cary and Dean Cary. Mrs. Brunk worked for Virginia Schools and Virginia Post Office. She was an avid animal lover and had many beloved pets. She was a member of Virginia Church of Christ. Legora especially loved taking care of her family. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Thursday, Feb. 1, 2024, at the Buchanan & Cody Funeral Home in Virginia. There will not be a formal visitation. Due to weather conditions, a private burial will be held at Walnut Ridge Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Virginia Church of Christ or Virginia Schools.
