Dennis Meyer Obituary

Dennis Otto Meyer

January 10, 1947 - April 19, 2025

Dennis Otto Meyer was born Jan 10th, 1947, at home near Palmer NE. He schooled in Palmer and later graduated from Northwest High School in Grand Island. He was drafted into the Army in 1968 and served in Vietnam in 1969, coming home in 1970. He married Judy Tatum in 1971, and to this union 4 children were born. The family lived in Ord, Grand Island, and finally the farm in Central City, where Judy passed away in 1998 from multiple sclerosis. In 2004, he met Sandy Jacobs who shared the rest of his life with him. He lived the rest of his life on the farm in Central City. He worked for 20 plus years for USDA/NRCS, retiring in 2009. Being interested in native American culture since he was little, he self taught himself to make bows and arrows, brain tan deer hides, and flint knap rocks. His crafts were widely known through his trading at Nebraska and Kansas rendezvous. He also loved riding and training horses in his younger years. With his sons he participated in many area team penning's taking away buckles and jacket prizes.

Loving the rural life as he did, he fulfilled an early dream of building a cabin at "the pond" as the farm sandpit was finally called. He stocked it with walleye and bass. He enjoyed many happy hours out there.

Left to mourn his passing are his 4 children; Shane (Alesha) Meyer of Alpha MN, Sara Meyer (Tony McCullough) of Central City NE, Suzann (Joel) Butler of Lincoln NE, and Scott (Amber) Meyer of Beatrice NE, 12 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren; his brother, Paul Meyer; brothers-in-law, Clarence Hiegel and Marion Omel, and special friend Sandy Jacobs. Also, numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and other family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by; his wife, Judy Meyer; his parents, Alfred and Evangeline Meyer; sisters, Delores Omel and Charlene Hiegel; sister-in-law, Peggy Meyer; brother and sister-in-law, Leroy and Margaret Meyer.

Honorary Pall Bearers: Kevin Hiegel, Chris Hiegel, Bill Carstens, Tim Bartles, Adam Grupe, Cooper Grupe, Hank Rowbal, Heath Rowbal.

Family will be hosting a celebration of life on May 31st, 2025 at 2 p.m. at the farm.

Dennis was such a very special person in my life! I truly loved him and he was my rock and my support for four years of my life. I loved riding with him on his horses and going to all the team penning competitions! He was such a kind and caring man! Sorry I have to miss his memorial!
