Dorothy Eleanor Young
May 19, 1925 - March 20, 2024
Dorothy Eleanor Young, born on the 19th of May, 1925 in Adams, Nebraska, passed on from this life on the 20th of March, 2024. A devoted daughter, loving wife, nurturing mother, and cherished member of her community, Dorothy lived a life full of dedication, support, and humility.
Dorothy married the love of her life, Clyde Young, in August of 1947. She was a supportive and loving wife until his passing. Dorothy was a dedicated educator with a master's degree in education. She taught in schools in Virginia, Sterling, and Adams in Nebraska, bringing her passion for learning to countless students. Even after retiring, she and her husband owned and operated several Taco John's restaurants. Her humble nature did not allow her to boast about her accomplishments, but those who knew her saw her dedication and commitment. Dorothy was also an active member of the United Methodist Church in Adams and the Adams VFW & Women's Auxiliary, where she offered her support to her fellow members.
In her leisure time, Dorothy enjoyed the game of tennis. She also loved music and found joy in playing the piano. Her love for traveling took her to various places. The pages of numerous books offered her a window to different worlds and perspectives. However, what mattered most to Dorothy was spending time with her family. Her love and care were the support system for her loved ones.
Dorothy is survived by her son, Jim (Carol) Young of Adams; grandchildren: Lisa (Scott) Turan, Melissa (Lynn) Grant, Natalie (Nathan) Fredrickson, Jameson Young, and Jonathan (Jessica) Young; six great-grandchildren; brother, Bill (Norma) Burrows of Adams; and several nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her father, Chase Burrows; mother, Blanche (Graves) Burrows; husband, Clyde Young; daughter, Carol Ann House, and sister, Roberta (Norman) Schmid.
A Family Prayer Service will be held on Friday, the 29th of March 2024, at 10:45 AM at the United Methodist Church, Adams, Nebraska. A Celebration of Life Service will follow at 11:00 AM at the church. A memorial has been established to the church with the funeral home in charge.

Dorothy became a 2nd mom to me after my best friend Carol House (her daughter) died. She was intelligent and well read. We always had something to talk about. She was so full of energy that I called her the energetic bunny. I will miss her.

I feel blessed that I was able to visit her recently. Blessed for the wonderful impact Aunt Dot had with my family and my life. Saddened that I am unable to attend the celebration of a life well lived. You will be remembered Aunt Dorothy.

Mrs. Young was one of my favorite teachers at Virginia High School. She taught me how to type and tried to teach me short hand but could not get it. I am a good typeist to this day and owe it to her. She was a lot of fun and a great teacher. May she rest in peace....Ila Marie Reiman chapman Neal
