Edith Marie (Baker) Messick

BEATRICE - Edith Marie (Baker) Messick, 92 years of age, of Beatrice passed away on Saturday, August 10, 2024, at Beatrice Health and Rehabilitation. She was born on February 28, 1932, in Blue Springs, Nebraska to Irving and Lottie Pearl (Murgatroyd) Baker. Edith grew up in various communities in southeast Nebraska where she attended school through the 10th grade. She received her G.E.D. later in life which was a point of pride for Edith. On August 19, 1949, Edith was united in marriage to Delmer Messick in Beatrice, Nebraska. To this union two children, Sally and Donald, were born. Edith was a homemaker most of her life dedicating her time to raising her children. She enjoyed sewing, reading, and spending time with her family. Edith was a member of the West Side Baptist Church in Beatrice for many years.
Edith is survived by her daughter, Sally Vater and husband, Richard of Beatrice; son, Donald Messick and wife, Mariza of Missouri City, TX; grandchildren: Shawn Vater and wife, Jami of Beatrice, Jesse Vater and wife, Sarah of Beatrice, Eric Messick of Salinas, CA; Amber Wood and husband, Chris of Leander, TX; Adam Messick and wife, Erika of Hutto, TX; Cindy Larkin and husband, Brian of Tomball, TX; 17 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Jack Messick of Granite City, IL; and many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Delmer; and sisters: Wilma (Duane) Keyes and Iona (Gene) Robinson.
A Celebration of Edith's Life will be held at 11:30 AM, Thursday, August 15, 2024, at the Veteran's Club at 701 Dorsey Street in Beatrice. Private family inurnment will be held at 10:30 am at the Evergreen Home Cemetery. Memorials contributions are suggested to the family's choice in care of the mortuary.
