Edward H. Harms, 78 years of age, of Adams, died Friday afternoon, July 18, 2008, at his home in Adams. He was born on January 3, 1930, at his parents' rural Adams farm, and attended country school.
He married Katherine M. Rademacher on August 20, 1950, at Zion Lutheran Church of rural Pickrell. He served in the U.S. Marines during the Korean Conflict from 1951 until 1953. After his discharge, they lived and farmed northeast of Pickrell until 1972. They then purchased and moved to the farmstead just east of their original home. In 2000, they moved into Adams. He was a member of the American Lutheran Church of Adams, the American Legion and the National Rifle Association. He enjoyed pheasant, deer and turkey hunting.
Survivors include his wife, Katherine of Adams; two sons, Gary Harms and wife Carol of Cortland and Dennis Harms and wife Diane of Adams; four grandchildren, Kerry Tinsley and husband Ellis of Sterling, Kim Harms of Adams, Chad Harms and wife Toni of Genoa and Chris Harms of Adams; five great-grandchildren, Mike and Megan Tinsley, Christian Harms, and Connor and Tessa Harms; six sisters, Rachel Wentz of Sterling, Betty Lou Parde and husband Heye of Cortland, Dorothy Ideus and husband Albert of Cortland, Marjorie Parde and husband Melvin of Filley, Elaine Monroe of Adams and Alberta Monroe of Denver, Colorado; two sisters-in-law, Katie Harms of Filley and Francis Baker and husband Cecil of Lincoln; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Kathryn Harms; and one brother, Raymond Harms.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 22, 2008, at the American Lutheran Church of Adams, with Pastor John Brink officiating. Burial will be at the Highland Cemetery of Adams. Military honors will be conducted by Frederick-Steidley Post 221 of the American Legion of Adams. A family prayer service will be held at 10:15 a.m. Tuesday in the fellowship room at the church. A memorial has been established to the American Lutheran Church in Adams with Ed Schoen and Walter Buss in charge. The body will lie in state at the Fox Funeral Home of Beatrice on Sunday from 8 a.m. until 9 p.m., at the Fox Funeral Home of Adams on Monday from 8 a.m. until 9 p.m., and then at the church one hour preceding the service on Tuesday.
