October 25, 1949 - August 27, 2025

Linda L. Hertzel, age 75, died at Garden Valley Retirement Center in Garden City, KS on August 27, 2025. She was born October 25, 1949, in Marysville, KS, the daughter of William Vernon Myers and Arlene Vera Gartner.

She married Dennis Alexander on June 14, 1970. They were married for 29 years.

She married Robert "Bob" Hertzel in Kaui, Hawaii on July 15, 2004.

She attended Elementary and high school in Marysville, KS. Linda graduated from Kansas State University in 1971 with her bachelor's degree and in 1972 with her master's degree. In 1986, she graduated from the University of Lincoln with her PhD.

She started the Fashion Merchandising program at Southeast Community College in Lincoln before becoming a Professor at Kansas State University. She then went on to become the Vice President of Manhattan Area Technical College. From there she retired.

Linda was proud of her education but was the proudest of her family. She loved to brag on her children and their families. She most loved talking to everyone about her grand and great grandchildren. She loved hearing about their life and seeing new pictures.

She was a fashionista. She loved collecting jewelry and gemstones. She was an artist at heart taking several art classes to learn how to paint with ink, watercolors, acrylics and oil-based paints.

She recently lived in Manhattan, KS for over 20 years before moving to Garden City, KS to be closer to her family.

She is survived by her sons, Matthew Alexander (Shanna), Lakin, KS and Ryan Alexander (Vanessa), Scottsdale, AZ; her stepchildren, Pat Hertzel (Krista) of St. Louis, MO, Tim Hertzel (Rebecca) of Wichita, KS, and Danielle Hertzel of Minnesota. She had 3 grandchildren, Kirsti Dewey (Owen) of Syracuse, Nebraska, Kaycee Leavitt (Jae) of Newton, KS, Carson Alexander of Douglass, NE; 10 step-grandchildren, Aidan Unruh and Asiah, Jolei, Mallory, Alexandria, Noah, Jesse, Leila, Chase and Cole Hertzel; and two great-grandchildren, Harper and Hudson Dewey. Linda was preceded in death by her husband, Robert and her parents.
