Marvin Vrtiska
August 28, 1943 - August 4, 2025
Marvin Leo Vrtiska passed away on August 4, 2025, at the age of 81, while doing what he loved most, picking tomatoes. Born on August 28, 1943, in Steinauer, Neb., he spent his childhood years there before moving to Wymore, Neb., where he resided until his passing. Marvin was a hard-working man. He worked as a meat cutter, carpenter, and then at Campbell's Soup in Tecumseh where he met his wife, Clara. A generous, supportive, and dedicated man, Marvin was known for his unwavering commitment to his family.
Marvin was a man of many passions, the most notable of which was his love for cultivating his vegetable garden, particularly his treasured tomatoes. Known affectionately as the "Tomato Man of Wymore," Marvin's dedication and love for his garden were evident in the 250 tomato plants he planted this year alone. He took great joy in selling his homegrown produce to local residents, who he loved just as much as his chocolate cake and ice cream sandwiches. Marvin was also an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting and bass fishing in his spare time. Above all, what mattered most to Marvin was his beloved wife, Clara, their children, and his tomato garden. His dedication to his wife and children was a testament to his supportive nature.
Marvin was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Beatrice, drawing strength and solace from his faith. As it is written in Ecclesiastes 3:1-2, "To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven: A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted." Marvin lived his life true to these words, nurturing his family and his garden with unwavering dedication.
Marvin is survived by his daughters, Sue (Rob) Davis of Wymore, Lisa Suggett of Beatrice, and Linda (Robert) McMann of Kansas; his son, Robert (Sherri) Fisher of Falls City; grandchildren, Cory Davis, Justin Garman, Melisa (Justin) Keeling, Bobbi (Kyle) Montford, Brandon and Cole McMann, Robert (Michelle) McMann, Jessica (Logan) Auffort, Jacie (Ben) Fisher, Robert (Wendy) Fisher; numerous great-grandchildren; his sister, Arlene (Sam) Craig; and his sisters-in-law, Carol (Tom) Brannon and Linda Adkins Seydlitz; several nieces and nephews; and a host of extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Clara Vrtiska; his parents; three brothers; and numerous brothers- and sisters-in-law.
Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, at 1:30 p.m., at Laughlin-Hoevet Funeral Home in Wymore. Burial at Blue Springs Cemetery.
