Raymond A. Witkowski

Raymond A. Witkowski, 88, of Beatrice, died Saturday afternoon, Feb. 7, 2009, at the Parkview Care Center in Beatrice. He was born on Aug, 22, 1920, at Beatrice and attended the St. Joseph's Catholic School in Beatrice.

He served in the United States Navy during World War II, from 1942-1946. He and Doris Workman were married on Aug. 1, 1944, at San Francisco, Calif., and they made their home in Beatrice. He owned and operated Witkowski Construction in Beatrice for over 50 years. He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church of Beatrice. He was also a member of Bitting-Norman Post 27 of the American Legion of Beatrice and had recently received his 50-year pin. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and bowling.

Survivors include his wife, Doris of Beatrice; one son, Randy Witkowski of Beatrice; two daughters, Jan Overbeck and husband Robert of Minneola, Kan., and Linda Burwell of Monument, Colo.; seven grandchildren, Mike Witkowski of Omaha, Jason Witkowski and wife Tanya of West Virginia, Jill Witkowski of Lincoln, Nathan Overbeck and wife Mary of Nevada, Nevin Overbeck and wife Shanda of Kansas, Blaine Burwell and Graham Burwell, both of Monument, Colo.; eight great-grandchildren; one sister, Ruby Jones of Barneston; one brother-in-law, Dale Workman and wife Wynnie of McCook; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, C. J. and Anna Witkowski; one son, Gary Witkowski; one daughter-in-law, Linda Witkowski, one sister, Darlene Gibson; and one brother-in-law, R.M. Jones. 

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 13, Fox Funeral Home, 19th and Garfield streets, Beatrice, with Father Steve Major officiating. Burial will be at a later date. A register book will be available at the Fox Funeral Home from 8 a.m. Thursday until the time of the service on Friday. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to the family's choice with Fox Funeral Home in charge.
