Robert Chapman
June 27, 1941 - August 14, 2025
Robert Melvin Chapman was born in Wymore, NE, on June 27, 1941, the son of Raymond and Edith (Wolcott) Chapman, and entered the gates of Paradise on August 14, 2025 at his home in Beatrice with his loving niece and nephew at his side along with many caregivers. He was baptized on September 27, 1942, at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Longview, WA.
Robert received his elementary education in Wymore and attended Hermiston High School in Hermiston, OR. After moving to California with his parents, he joined the U.S. Air Force in 1958 at the age of 17. He continued his education and obtained his GED credential. He served his country faithfully for six years and was honorably discharged in 1964. Robert and his family returned to California and established their home in Carmichael. Robert was employed as an airplane mechanic at McClellan Air Force Base, he finished his working career by accepting a janitorial position with the San Juan Unified School District at the Carmichael Elementary School. Soon after retirement, they moved to Beatrice, Nebraska.
Robert is survived by his aunts, Norma Bramhall and Mary Ann Wolcott; and sister-in-law, Arlene Chapman. Also many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Virginia and Carol (Frank) Hageman; brothers, Larry, Edwin "Gene" and wife Bridgitte "Sue," Richard "Dick" and wife Lavina "Lee," Roger and Billy; grandparents, Sherman and Alice Chapman and George and Orpha Wilametta Wolcott.
Robert was a very private person but enjoyed camping, fishing and family bar-b-ques. He had an unfailing love for his dachshunds. He will be missed by all.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on August 27, 2025 at the Laughlin-Hoevet Funeral Home in Wymore. Burial will be at Wymore Cemetery. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Wymore American Legion, 815 West D Street, Wymore, NE 68466, or a charity of our choice.
