Walter H. Buss

Walter H. Buss, 91, of Adams, passed away Friday morning, August 22, 2025 at the Johnson County Hospital in Tecumseh. He was born on September 4, 1933 on a farm south of Adams and attended Coffman country school. He proudly served with the Seabees in the U.S. Navy from 1952-1954. On March 11, 1955 he married Ruth Schoene at St. John Lutheran Church in Sterling. He was a long-time farmer in the Adams area and a member of the American Lutheran Church in Adams, the Sterling Legion, and VFW. He enjoyed bow hunting, fishing, bird watching, gardening, traveling, and spending time with his family. He was an avid student studying German and Spanish.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth Buss of Adams; children, Cheryle Pierce, Donna Jobman, Steven (Dawn) Buss, Jerald (Kristi) Buss, Annette (Jeff) Kolter, Melanie (Mitchell) Johnson, and Laura (Rick) Weber; grandchildren, Sara (Richie Butler) MacLean, Becky (Cody) Buhr, Nicole (Justin) Comstock, Chelsea (Kevin Butler) Kolter, Conner (Dominic DiCicco) Kolter, Cassidy (Tyler Reeves) Kolter, Destiny Buss, Summer Buss, Trinity Buss, Taylor (Charles) West, Quinten Johnson, Sidney (Hayden Parker) Johnson, Max (Sarah) Johnson, Garrett (Tess) Weber, Emily (Kevin Hughes) Weber, Jessica (Daniel) Ingram, and (Ashley Peters); great-grandchildren, Jack MacLean, Eddie Pierce, Grayson and Laken Buhr, Casey Comstock, Camden and Cooper Hughes, Beau Weber, Avery Weber, Calvin and Ripley Weber, Walter Johnson, Anders West, Lillian Hobbs, and three more expected in October; brother, Alvin (Barbara) Buss; sisters-in-law, Marlene Bell and Evelyn Kemmett; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sons-in-law, Randy Pierce and Richard "Butch" Jobman; grandsons, James Pierce and Vance Weber; great-grandchildren, Braxton Buhr and Bexley Comstock; parents, Krene and Fanny Buss; brothers, Henry (Clara) Buss, John Buss, and Alfred Buss; sisters, Grace (Tom) Harms and Elizabeth (Lubbe) Rademacher; parents-in-law, Alva and Ellen Schoene; brothers-in-law, Larry (Barbara) Schoene and George Kemmett.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Thursday, August 28, 2025 at the American Lutheran Church of Adams with Pastor Nathan Metzger officiating. Burial will be at the Highland Cemetery of Adams with military rites conducted by the U.S. Navy Honor Guard. A family prayer service will be held at 9:30 A.M. Thursday at the church. The body will lie in state on Wednesday from noon until 8:00 P.M. at the Fox Funeral Home of Adams. The family will greet friends on Wednesday from 5:00 until 7:00 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to the American Lutheran Church in Adams and Adams Rescue.
