In the early morning of December 14th Charles Richard "Dick" Wynn passed away at the William R. Courtney Texas State Veteran's Home in Temple, TX from complications of prostate cancer and vascular dementia. Dick was born at Memorial Hospital in Houston, TX on September 11th, 1950and grew up in Beaumont, TX. He attended French Elementary, Bowie Junior High and graduated from French High School in 1969. He served in the US Army Infantry in Vietnam, earning multiple decorations and medals including Sharpshooter Expert, and from which, when he finally allowed himself to receive VA benefits at age 72, he became a 100% disabled VET. After returning from the war, he worked with his father in school photography with Provine Studios, earned his Real Estate Broker license (which he maintained until 2015), and eventually built his residential construction and remodeling business. Many in Austin, Marble Falls, Bee Caves, Lakeway, Hudson Bend, Salado, and Round Rock will remember him and his exceptional construction and carpentry skills.
If you knew Dick, you know that he was a true renaissance man and everything he did he did well and with perfection. He knew how to fix and make anything. He also had a deep love of conservation, maintaining and restoring habitat for Quail, indigenous trees and wildflowers, caring for the ponies he rode when he played polo, all his highland hunting dogs, and all fishing! He loved all things natural, wild, and free and that's the way he lived his life. He may have been the kindest man you ever met-he cared for and would do anything to help everyone.
Dick is survived by his wife of 20 years Julie Snodgrass of Fort Worth; brothers and their spouses: John and Judith Wynn of Georgetown, Ralph Wynn and Kanani Mahelona and their grandson Jackson Wynn of Fort Worth, Will and Heather Wynn of McAllen, Allen and Christy Wynn of The Woodlands; many loved nieces and nephews around the country and world and their children. Dick was preceded in death by his beloved parents and siblings Roger and Charlotte Wynn, Genny Wynn Williams, and Steve Wynn.
Dick's ashes will be interred in the old Wynn family plot in the Taylor City Cemetery, Taylor, TX at 11:00 AM on Saturday January 4th, 2024. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made in honor of Dick Wynn to the American Brain Foundation (
