I did not know Fred extremely well, but during the times we did see each other at family gatherings I enjoyed his company. As I was a late arrival to the extended family circle, Fred went out of his way to help me feel welcome and we had several interesting conversations over the years. I was always impressed with his positive attitude regarding his physical challenges, and I hope I was successful in assuring him that those things did not matter one bit to me.
A few years ago, Fred, my friend Dave, and myself rode our big ole Hollys around Texas for a few days, either at the end or beginning of one of Dave and my annual getaways. Fred more than held his own with the beast, and although he decided to cut it short, we all had a good time and I'm happy Fred and I were able to share something we both love.
Ride in Peace, Fred!!!

Fred was a part of my life for many years when my mom married his father-in-law, we became family. I remember many family functions when Fred was there with Lynn, my step-sister, later adding their two children, Chris and Alyson to the mix. We always had fun, shared a lot of laughs and made memories. Even after he and Lynn divorced, we were still family and he attended many family get togethers. I remember when Fred was diagnosed with cancer but instead of feeling sorry for himself, he got up, brushed off his troubles and fought to be able to speak and join in on conversations. His tenacity was impressive. Although Fred wasn't in the best of shape, he kept plugging away, contributing to the circle and made his presence known. I feel for his children and pray that their memories will sustain them during this difficult time period. I am sure Fred is catching up with folks and talking with a strong, hearty voice in his new surroundings. You are in our thoughts and prayers.
