Gladys Lowrey Obituary

Gladys Irene Lowrey, age 90, died March 20, 2008 at Harbor Hospice after a short stay. A lifelong resident of the Beaumont – Port Arthur area, she was a graduate of Beaumont High School. Gladys was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Beaumont where she played the organ and piano as a young woman prior to her marriage and move to Pt. Arthur. She was a former member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Pt. Arthur, Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Nederland, and St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Groves. Gladys was very musical and played piano by ear. She was employed for Groves City Hall for a number of years. She was a devoted wife and mother. Gladys is preceded in death by her parents, W.A. and Metha Miertschin, her husband, Delmer E. Lowrey, and her son, Robert Earl Lowrey, one sister, Mildred Robbins, and one brother, William Mierstchin, Jr. She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Joyce Lowrey, one granddaughter, Jan Collier and her husband, Wayne, one great-granddaughter, Crystal Collier, along with several nieces and nephews. Services will be held at St. John's Lutheran Church with Pastor Douglas Rathgeber presiding on Monday, March 24, 2008 at 10:30 am. Visitation will be held, Saturday, March 22, 2008 from 5pm to 7pm at Levingston Funeral Home in Groves, Texas. In lieu of flowers, friends so desiring may make memorial contributions to St. John's Lutheran Church, 2955 S. Major Drive in Beaumont, Texas 77707.
