Jack L. Dennis

1962- 2014 On August 14, 2014, Jack L Dennis, 52 of Galveston, died peacefully after a long battle with health problems. He is survived by friends Rachel Scotchmer, Gayle Schumacher, Doyle Neuwiller, Susan VanDyke, Karen Hill, Karen, Carol Broussard, John and Mary Allums, Reah and Claude Dilworth and Many others. He was accepted into their families as one of their own. Surviving family includes sister Ginger Maddox of China, Tx; three brothers Randal Smith and wife Sylvia of Evan, La., Paul Mac Smith and wife Phyllis of Mauriceville, Tx and Johney (Dennis) Hoppe of Schertz, Tx. He is also survived by eight nephews, six nieces and one special feline buddy Ding Dong. Jack is preceded in death by his mother Helen Talmidge Dennis and his father Johnnie Dennis; his lifelong partner Trey Kettle; sister Dora Mae (Beebe) Richmond; niece Stephanie Smith and brother-in-law Earnest W. (Buster) Maddox Jr. Jack served as a band leader to hundreds of Galveston and Newton students over his twenty-nine year tenure. His students remember him as patient, caring and willing to do whatever he could to help them. Jack or Jackie as he was known by family has forever left a lasting impression on the many people. Funeral services will be 3 pm Sunday at Smith Funeral Home in Newton with interment to follow at Newton Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 pm until service time.
